COIX LACRYMA-JOBI
A cereal grass related to cane sugar and corn. Job’s tears have traditionally been used as a source of nutrition and medicine in East Asian cultures. The plants grow to about 1m tall, are perennial, making grass like foliage with the most amazing large seeds in shades of pearly white to brown that are popular as ornamental beads for making necklaces. The beads progress from a green to black, and finally a shiny gray colour. Seeds can be harvested when they are uniformly black – they will acquire their pearly sheen in storage. A perennial plant requiring a well-drained sunny situation.
